Since coming to PS2 in 2005, God of War has made its way to an unprecedented audience, selling millions of copies because of its bold ideas, dazzling graphics, and fierce hero. It is Kratos, gentlemen: the most powerful embodiment of the wrath of the human spirit in the face of beyond imagination.

Hang on well and prepare to take you on a journey with our ranking of god of war's top 5 games, celebrating the launch of the latest version to date of God of War (2018) for your PC, and bringing millions of new fans into this world of mythology.

Our rating will not include PSP sub-versions, and we will focus solely on home platform versions:

5) God Of War (2005)

When we first met Kratos, it seemed like we were playing with evil, ruthless characters. Rough appearance, bad manners, twisted muscles, that and bloodthirst, but Kratos's story was filled with sorrow. "The Lord of War" is his nickname, but he used to be a normal human being who led his army towards doom to ask for the help of the Greek legend Ares, to give him an unprecedented force to defeat his enemies, but it later caused the death of his (first) family of his wife and daughter, which prompted Kratos to go on a journey to eliminate the original warlord Ares in retaliation.

As the first release in the series, God of War has introduced many distinct ideas in action style and Hack 'N' Slash, but it has also suffered from some bad stages and graphics do not currently live up to the level of new games. The style of play is also a little limited, so it's the weakest version right now despite being the cornerstone of the series.

4) God Of War: Ascension

Although it comes to the end of the life of the PS3, the version just before the 2018 part, Ascension is usually seen as the second weakest version of the game. It's not about graphics, which were the best on the PS3, or the fun style of play as usual, but about not bringing anything new to the series. Some of the positives included an extensive look at Kratos' past and his beginnings as a war master, but the series began to look like it was going on in a vicious circle. For the first time since the first part, Kratos' anger seemed more familiar than we loved. It's not a bad game at all, but it certainly highlighted the need for some change in DNA, which gave us a radically different 2018 version.

3) God Of War 3

3) God Of War 3

When God of War 2's premiere was released in 2009, the Internet ignited with enthusiasm for weeks, perhaps months. Some may be the end of part two as one of the best endings in video game history, so the level of enthusiasm was most intense to follow Kratos' journey of climbing Mount Lamps and ending what he began by eliminating all those who opposed his path.

God of War 3 is more than just a bloody action game, it has brought exciting events that pump excitement into the veins through more than 120 pages of text, delivered through the latest graphic technology ever in time with a new graphic engine that has reviewed the muscles of the PS3 in an unprecedented way and with techniques softening new edges that we have not seen on home platforms before, as well as a real 720p accuracy and attention to the finer details, so much so that one violent clip in the game took a year to make!

GoW 3 was a victory on all sides for PlayStation and Santa Monica teams, and it was supposed to be the grand finale worthy of a Kratos-sized legend. But it was really a new beginning for another chapter, one that we followed up with its successful start in 2018.

2) God Of War (2018)

Did you think you saw everything Kratos had? Think again. The 2018 release surprised everyone, announcing Kratos's exit from injustice to light (literally, just watch the first shot at the ad show). Our hero here is wiser, smarter, with a good heart (at least sometimes), and has reined in his anger as much as possible. The result is a new game that remakes the iconic PlayStation series without throwing all the previous games, moving into a new world with new legends and beloved characters with more mature Kratos.

From the beginning of the game to the end, you will go on a journey that was filmed moment by moment without interruption for kratos and his new son Atreus's adventure across this strange new country, to meet father and son a number of terrifying Scandinavian legends and magical and imaginary creatures in pursuit of the highest peak in the world and scatter the ashes of Kratos's new wife (who died before the events of the game.

The result was a more mature game, full of patriarchal feelings and valuable lessons that contributed to the formation of Atreus as a reflection of his father Kratos without engaging in his previous sins. The graphics are impressive and have become better with the PC version and style of play, although fans are divided about it, it's good enough with a tendency to RPG style a little bit. We'd like to see more movements and variations (and maybe a jump button), but GoW 2018 is still a great action game.

1) God Of War 2

Some may disagree with us in classifying Part II as god of war's best version, but what this version of the series has provided is almost impossible to replicate in any other version. If God of War 1 is the lowest point in Hell ares, God of War 2 is the highest point in Mount Olympus: unprecedentedly bold, excessively bloody, a style of play that won't let you rest to take yourself, a great story and events that guide the design of great stages, powerful new enemies and graphics that took our eyes out of place when we played them on PS2.

We can safely say that god of war series would not have continued without the astronomical success of God of War 2, which has brought the series to the global fame we currently see and strengthened Kratos' status as one of the scariest characters ever. What's special about it is that the game remains fun to play to this day, so if you want to know how it all started for this series after you finished God of War 2018 on the computer, we immediately recommend downloading the second part to one of the PS2 simulators and testing it himself.

That was our rating for god of war series games. Many may not agree with us, but what we all share is our love for this sony series. We come back and remember, of course, that these games are pure fantasy, and must be treated as well. There are no Greek or Scandinavian "gods", legends woven by her book to imagine a world full of the chaos of the struggle of superpower from nature. As a piece of literary fiction, God of War has painted a bloody painting that will remain immortal in the memory of video game lovers for a very long time.
