Scandinavian mythology in God of War and what we're waiting for in the next part

size

God of War (2018) is full of legendary characters

When we talk about Greek mythology and Mount Olympus, our hero Kratos has faced almost all his fictional characters. But what about the Scandinavian north or the so-called Seagull? That's what we started getting to know in God of War (2018), and what we're going to follow in Ragnarok's next release.

Without any lengthening or introductions, here's a simple glimpse of all the legends who appeared in the game, and a simple glimpse of each of them:

Baldur

No one is more worthy of being a prelude to this legendary saga than "Baldor," which comes in the early hours of the game to introduce the player (and Cretos) to this new world different from previous versions. Although our hero is beating him, this enemy has proved himself to be the hardest in Kratos's career.

Baldur's origins stem from Scandinavian mythology as the "master of light" of the Aesir dynasty, the son of Freya and Odin in this world. Despite his unskilled appearance, Baldur has a mantra that makes him unkillable and has made him look all over the earth for someone who can feel pain again.

Freya

One of the few characters loyal to our hero Kratos in the game, Freya claimed to be a "jungle witch" to hide her reality as one of the masters of the Vanir dynasty, a lady of love and knowledge in Scandinavian mythology.

Freya has tremendous magical power and has been able to bring Mimir's head back to life as well as help Kratos and his son Atreus several times. Although she tried to prevent our hero from killing a character at the end of the game after revealing her motherhood to him, Kratos kills him in any case, foreshadowing a transformation we will soon see in Ragnarok.

Mimir

One of God of War's greatest elders, Mimir plays a pivotal role in this world by being a master of full knowledge and a former Odin collaborator, but his relationship with the Giants of Jotunheim, Odin's enemies, has locked him up and tortured him.

Mimir (or at least part of it) will accompany our hero Kratos on his journey through this world, providing him with a lot of information and stories about legends and other masters as well as helping him discover many hidden secrets. Mimir has a fun personality despite his wisdom and will return to Ragnarok to accompany our heroes on their final journey.

Magni & Modi

Two Aesir legends represent the masters of strength and courage, Magni and Modi, thor's son, The Lord of Thunder, and the grandsons of Mr. Odin.

Although they were described in Scandinavian mythology as a survivor of the final Battle of Ragnarok and inherited thor's thunderous hammer Mjolnir, their fate in God of War was. A little different, after confronting The Outsider Kratos and his son Atreus.

Thor

Although we just tried to mention the myths that appear on the screen while playing, we can't touch the Thunder's own Master Thor, whose appearance at the end of the game was a shock (understand it?) that revived all the players.

Whether you know him from marvel's cinematic world or from her comics, Thor's history dates back much earlier to be one of the most famous original Scandinavian legends. This Scandinavian master can control thunder through the super-powerful Mjolnir hammer, which no one else can use, making it a deadly weapon with his own hand. Despite appearing as a hero in other entertainment worlds, he is here to break Kratos after what he did with his sons Magni and Modi. Our hero has really made a lot of enemies!

The legends we are waiting for to appear in Ragnarok's next part:

Tyr

Perhaps one of the most prominent figures in the world, Tyr is the warlord of this world, which will make his meeting with Kratos very exciting as they share the same title. Although we thought he was dead, Ragnarok's initial performances showed him captive on Kratos editing him to help him in his final battle. Does he join him?

Odin

The greatest master of Scandinavian mythology and Thor's father, Odin poses the greatest danger of being the most powerful master in this world and the source of many conflicts and wars for his excessive madness by force. Because of what Kratos did in the story of the last part, Odin will undoubtedly intervene personally, especially with the launch of Ragnarok's final events that threaten to kill him in the original mythology. Do our heroes succeed in doing so themselves?

Angrboda

The mother of monsters and a descendant of giants, Angrboda plays a role in Scandinavian mythology as Loki's wife, and we've seen her in Ragnarok's performances represented by a young girl who will play a pivotal role in the story, particularly her relationship with Atreus. She will undoubtedly be one of the supporting characters in the game, but we will wait to see her real underlying motives.

That was our list of the most prominent legends of the god of war's current story. Ragnarok will undoubtedly have more of those we haven't mentioned, but we'll wait until 2022 for PS4 and PS5 platforms to get to know them better. We can't wait for that!
